The five-year Thai Rice Strategy for the period 2020-24 is ready, Jurin Laksanawisit, deputy prime minister and the minister of commerce, said.

The strategy prepared by a subcommittee will be proposed to a meeting of the National Rice Policy and Management Committee (NRPMC) before seeking approval from the Cabinet.

The goal is to make Thailand a world leader in the production and marketing of quality rice and rice products, in four areas: foreign marketing; domestic marketing; production and processed products; and innovations from rice, Jurin said.

The rice is divided into seven types according to the needs of the three markets: premium market (jasmine and Thai fragrant rice); general market (soft white rice, hard white rice and parboiled rice); and specific markets (sticky rice, coloured rice or special feature rice).

I have a vague recollection about that they once were number 1. Let´s make a hub!

Thailand was a world leader, but it was ruined by greed, corruption, amongst other things.

I grew up in western Europe during the Cold War. "5 Year Plan", "10 Year Plan" or "20 Year Plan" to my ears still sounds like something a Communist party's central committee in some Eastern Bloc country would announce. And I also remember that pretty much all these ambitious sounding "xx year plans" rather uniformly turned out to be utter duds. If only one or two aspects of the plan don't quite pan out, the entire scheme collapses.

The only thing they are World leaders at these days is 'talking' about being World leaders !

Why a 5 year plan? Seems 1 year more than long enough for people to forget about the plan

Maybe they should employ Ying Luk as a consultant! She had a brilliant plan for rice griwing and narketing.

I am really afraid Thailand missed the boat in the rice and tourist business.

Sincerely hope I am wrong, the poor have been hit too much already.

Already wasted one year.  Or at least 9 months.  With all the meetings they will waste over a year.

coming  soon, Thailand leads  UNIVERSE MULTIVERSE  in rice exports

Yup, and the most polluted city in the world for a third straight year as a result.????????

They are trying to relive their glory days.....days gone by.

Jump on the roundabout qnce a world leader now a starter for the race!

So what is the plan,it needs more than just saying so,Vietnam,India are moving ahead

with their rice exports,at lower prices.

And the climate against them drought or flood.

Thailand is 6th is the world in terms of rice production, and 2nd in the world for rice exports (behind India)...so it depends how the define success...

...and they will decline about 9% this year in production...and may need to retain a little more than they planned to feed the people.

Considering the clowns in power once stated that Thai would be the number one language in the world and be spoken by all people, they tend to aim a little high sometimes

As long as they feel they need to control rice as their regime little special money maker, it won’t work. I have tasted wonderful and cheaper Jasmine e from cambodia and vn .

Can imagine, soon there will be Alien Space ships landing to buy Thai Rice.....Center of the Universe...

Medical hub, rice hub, tourist hub, airline hub, scam hub, sex hub, high tech hub, fairy tale hub, hub hub hub !
