Get a 60 day extension before a 1 year marriage extension?

Recommended Posts

Hey

I came to Thailand on a 90 days non immigrant O visa based on marriage and I will get the 1 year extension based on marriage next.

However, to get some extra time before I’m starting that process, is it possible to first get a 60 day extension before my 1 year extension?

If it works, how do you get the 60 day extension and what documents do you need?

Thanks.

You can apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife and then apply for the one year extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon marriage.

You wife will need to be with you when you apply. You will need your marriage certificate and copy of it, copies of you wife's house book registry and ID card. Some offices will also want a recent printout of your Kor Ror 2 marriage registry that can be requested at any Amphoe.

You will also need proof you are living within the designated area of the office where you apply.

When you apply for the one-year you might need two copies of everything. I've read here that some offices want that, but my local IO (Kalasin) said they don't. I'm going to double-up anyway to be safe. Don't forget that when you apply for the one-year you will have to show you've had 400,000 baht or 40,000 baht monthly income for two months prior to the application (so from the day you apply for the 60-day), and they will probably want it to remain in your account during the one month that your application is being approved. Again, some offices want that and others don't. Check at yours. If you have a Thai child the two-month rule doesn't apply.

UbonJoe will correct me if I'm wrong.
