My wife called yesterday evening to tell me the dog had disappeard, no problem i thought, he's gone for a wonder as usual. 24 hours later no sign of him, and nobody else has seen sight of him. I have had retrievers before, one black flat coat ran over 4 miles to the scent of a bitch, but this lab's only around 1 year old, not that makes any difference. You reckon someone stole him? He got lost somewhere? He's sh3t scared of cars and roads so unlikely an accident :o

I'm really sorry to hear/read this, Globeliner.

Yes, it is very possible somebody stole the dog. It is also possible the dog got frightened by something, started running and lost its way. Or he got stuck somewhere.

I might be an option your wife makes flyers and gives it around in a radius of at least 1.5 km, with a bonus for the one with valuable information. Maybe somebody knows something.

From at least one family I know that, through this path, they got their beagle back, who was stolen from their garden.

I wish you and your wife lots of luck!

please all, keep your dogs safe! 'wandering around' always leads to drama!

wish you good luck and hope he will be returned and is still ok...

Thats terrible News: But good idea from Nienke:

On the downside ask your lady to find out if the Dog pick-up has been in your village:

These are Buggers I know for taking dogs that command good price;

My GSD never goes out the gate: but when these picl-up is in the village I let them see I am watching them:

Sorry to be de-moralising I do wish you luck

Set out flyers and ask your neighbors. Its very possible your dog is afraid to come back.

My dog "wandered" about 1k down the road (I'm convinced someone took her and then dropped her when she fought back) and couldn't get back for fear of the dogs between her and our house. A neighbor saw her and called to let us know where she was and we got her back.

Cheers guys, we recieved a call from some neighbours who knew a bloke that had found him, picked him up nearly 3km's away, he looks like he hasn't eaten, but all's well...

thanks again for the advice...

Brilliant. A happy ending. Could you get a tag engraved for his collar? No address is best, but a phone number just in case it happens again

I'm so sorry for your loss Kleik. Loosing a beloved one is painfull, but loosing one in such a way is just plain horrible.

As you state that he was the best dog you ever had, I suggest to moarn your dog first. My reasoning is that getting another dog so fast after loosing one that was so important to you, increases the chance you will reflect your lost dog's personality on the new-comer. And, of course, the new-comer can never ever stand up against that image and this can counteract, if you understand what i'm trying to say.

But in case you already have given this a good thought and still prefer to look for a new lab, I also suggest to contact the several shelters first. I does happen that lab's and golden's are neglected and taken under their care. I know of two golden's, both crippled and both very sweet adults, in one of the Chiang Mai shelters. These dogs also deserve a good home. Now, I know that CM is a bit far for you, although nothing is impossible. :o

Maybe Elfe or November Rain have lab's or lab mixes, that you can have a look at. On Koh Pangan (or something) there is also a dog rescue organisation.

On the other hand, if your heart really lies with a full-bred lab, then that's what you should be looking for, and nothing else.

Wish you good luck in finding another best friend,

Nienke

Globeliner, that's great news ! I'm happy that you find your dog. My uncle had a terrible experience loosing his Siberina Husky for 10 days ! and someone rescued her. At that time they put advertisements everywhere, call the radio, tv, vet, neighbour, etc

She is still alive and very happy spoiled dog. Don't let him alone.

Kleik, I agree with Nienke's advice about getting a new dog right after your dog's death. I can tell you from my own experience that it's better to wait and mourn him. It's been 9 month form my dog's death (she died when I was abroad and she was in a hotel for dogs in Bangkok, she died because of neglect from that people....) and I can't have another dog yet. The pain is huge and I miss her dearly. Take your time, you will know when it's time to welcome another family member. Regards

yes i understand what you say, it's not only for my it's also for my other dog, he lost his only friend, i now, i cant get the same personality etc... im ready for an other dog with different comportement.

yes chang mai is a bit far... all those dogs would be welcome home, but i cant for the moment. i spend most of my time in the forest, i need healty and mindfull dog.

yes im going to look at Elfe web page great job :o the info is on, Elfe or November Rain if you have a puppy labrador, contact my (under condition of my precedent post :D )

On the other hand, if your heart really lies with a full-bred lab, then that's what you should be looking for, and nothing else.
to be honest the first time i was a bit against having a labrador in thailand, because i was thinking it was a bit to hot for that kind of dog, but my friend want to give my one of his puppy and i accept, after few month i realise this dog is well in this climat, is easy to teach allways happy and loyal to is owner.

Wish you good luck in finding another best friend,

Nienke

thank's nienke :D

You sound like another kind soul, Kleik. Welcome to the forum, too. May I also add that if your Thai dog is getting so old, he might get depressed if you bring a new pup into the home -- like he might feel he is not good enough anymore. I might wait until he passes and then start over. I knew one guy who had a dog for many years; when it got too old and went blind, he got a new puppy and gave it the same name. I was really upset about that. The older dog just turned listless and seemed like he just wanted to die from lack of affection.

hi kleik,

as i read your posts i think you are a very mindful dogowner, though the sad poisoning incident of your beloved dog bothers me a bit. but then, unforeseen horror happens :o

i would like to give you one of my dogs, it would have to be sent by air, but unfortunately i don't have a lab pup.

i have one labrador (male), one year old. that might be too old for you and he's very heavy too (flight cost ...). he's a wonderful dog though, very intelligent but not much trained. i have him since he was a puppy. he is healthy, neutered and has all jabs etc.

puppies i have thai mixes and dalmatians (females). the dalmatians are adorable, very affectionate, love to live with other dogs, very active, love to run, but might be a bit more work in training...

as i read your posts i think one of my male thaimix pups would be very suitable and joy for you, here he is - princie
