Traffic fines suspended in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap

Featured Replies

The National Police yesterday issued a new order to temporarily suspend fines for traffic offenders in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap province in order to avoid traffic jams and limit the chance of COVID-19 spread. General Neth Savoeun, National Police Chief, has put the order in place until the “November 28 community incident” is over and new instructions are issued.

Lieutenant General Chhay Kim Khoeun, National Police spokesman, said that the suspension of traffic fines – that came into effect yesterday and will continue until December 15 – will only take place in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap province due to them being at the highest risk of COVID-19 community transmission in Cambodia. Lt Gen Kim Khoeun said that traffic police officers will continue to strictly implement the road traffic laws and issue fines for offenders as usual in all other provinces.

He said that the suspension aims to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 by keeping traffic moving and avoiding congestion. “I would like to confirm the temporary suspension of fines for traffic offenders between December 1 and 15 which will take place only in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap province, in which there is a high risk of COVID-19 spread in the community,” he added.
