'Exactly the show we needed in 2020': readers' favourite theatre of the year

With theatres dark for much of the year, readers found imaginative alternatives online as well as treasurable shows on stage

 

The Strange Tale of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel

Stephen Joseph theatre, Scarborough

 

Told By an Idiot and Theatre Royal Plymouth’s co-production was fast-paced, physical, beautifully choreographed and performed.

 

Based on a true story (that is not widely known) it provided an amazing evening of jaw-dropping entertainment and great music.
