Monitor Flickering

Featured Replies

About a week ago, my new [less than a year old] pc didn't want to boot up, so replaced power supply and now starts ok, but at the same time my monitor started to flicker....getting worse by the day. I have a new motherboard [asus graphics intergrated 64 bit w/dual core] and new samsung lcd monitor. tried another monitor and still flickers [twitches, jerks and gives headaches], so that leads me to believe that i need a new video card. my new motherboard is still under warantee, but dealing with warantee issues may hang up my pc for weeks, so should i go for a new video card @ 1,800bhatt??? or does anyone out there have any suggestions for a cheap easy fix????

Take the PC, without Monitor and Keyboard, to the shop where you bought the NB from and let them "play". But if it is the internal Video card, the problem could be from the Memory, very rare but possible! May try to first to upgrade the Bios of th MB.

Is everything plugged in properly?

Did you try a different monitor cable?

Did you try your monitor on another system?

Have you checked the (internal) power connections (unplugged them and re-plugged them -- with the mains lead disconnected) since you replaced the PSU?

jaideeguy - It would be helpful to have more specifics on your setup, such as your motherboard model, CPU, operating system, video card make/model, etc., etc. Also, Im not clear as to whether your new motherboard was installed before or after you replaced the power supply.

First, with main power cord unplugged, check that all connectors to/from motherboard are properly seated. (Check for bent pens.)

Second, if your new Asus motherboard has "on-board" video capability, remove external video card, reattach main power cord, boot computer and check if "flicker" is still present. (You may need to reset a BIOS setting to use motherboards built-in video. (Check Asus owners manual for specifics.)

If problem persists, gently clean video card edge connector (preferably using pencil eraser), wipe with clean-dry cloth, and reinstall card making sure it is properly seated. Next go to video card manufacturer's website and download/install latest driver(s) for your card. Reboot system.

Post back your observations/comments.

motherboard model is asus, graphics intergrated model A8N-VM,

cpu ........AMD Athlon64x2 dual core,

os.....[legit] XP 64bit professional

motherboard was installed with the powersupply, which was included with case [maybe low quality ps?] and i replaced ps a few days ago and still have monitor flicker.

my main question is 'could the failing power supply and flickering monitor be coincidental or are they connected??'

I'm a little reluctant to get into the guts of my monster, so will rely on a pro to do the dirty work and hope that he won't 'sell' me a new video card, when my old [integrated]one is still on warantee.

thanks for your input,

JDG

As Waldwolf said ... before you shell out money on

new hardware, download and install the latest video drivers

for your existing card.

Naka.
