Honorary Titles--khunying, Thanpuying Khunchai

Featured Replies

Thai honorary titles Khunying, Thanpuying (for ladies) & Khunchai (for men). Titles are usually bestowed on ladies. Since the end of absolute monarchy in Thailand honoring men with special titles has been discontinued.

Has any one heard of or know if these titles can or have been revoked.

I'm specifically thinking about Khunying Potmajam(Mr. T's wife). If she stands trial and is found guilty will she be loose her title. I hope so.

I'm not sure about the reasons for these titles being bestowed on some of these women. Apart from grovelling toadyism.

Services given to society in promoting hairspray or designer handbags maybe? :o

With few exceptions for persons giving truly meritorious service to the nation, these titles are bought by the rich (and often corrupt) for contributions to any nunber and variety of money making schemes.

I thought they were bestowed by the "fount of all honour", as in the recent Coronation Day honours.

Does anyone know why titles for men were withdrawn?

So far we are OK, but please be careful in this discussion, as these awards are from HM the King.

Thank you.

Thank you.

You're the first one to bring Him up! Be careful!

Lester Piggott lost his decoration.

However, in Thailand, the rich are above the law. So, perhaps your question should have been, "Can the titled be found guilty of a crime in Thailand?"

:o
