before getting into too much detail, im looking at a 1 rai plot to create a jungle/forest oasis.

has anybody done something similar or any good with planning such an endeavour?

as statedin the title, its dense with trees, plenty of which will have to come down but hoping to leave as many as possible, preferably with fruit/good shade.

1 rai = 1600sq. metres/40m x 40m or thereabouts

thanks in advance!!

1 rai is a tiny area unless it’s part of a much larger area. We have 4+ and a small grove would have been possible. SWMBO has something a little like that as our garden.

having done a permaculture designer's cursus, it teaches you to plant the trees you want but speed up the growth process by the so called "support species" (trees). For instance, the well known tree "kha-thin" is a nitrogen fixing tree, has green foilage in the dry season and gives you a lot of biomass with pruning. This pruning you add to your main trees you want to grow in your jungle. Once you main trees are big enough, they shade out the kha-thin. A good design can speed up the process from 40 to 50 years to 10-15.... There are a lot of videos available on the subject.

the rough idea so far is knockdown tree house/sala at corners with a proper house in the back middle area with rear kitchen garden & side parking/workshop hopefully with a reasonable sized waterhole at the front.

As for it being tiny, i kind of agree however it will be 4x more than what we have now. thanks

We built our house in the boonies 24 years ago.......there were a few santol trees on the land and nothing else.  We've since planted many neem trees that border one barbed wire fence line, a variety of bamboo along another line, surrounded the area closer to the house with red and green palm for shade, and many other palm in the garden area for landscaping, lime, coconut, tamarind, an ebony tree, some teak, jackfruit, and others.  We're very happy with the way the palms have grown which now completely shade the eastern porch and western outdoor kitchen.  Along the western side of the carport we planted some lamyai trees to shade the afternoon sun.  Our guesthouse/bungalow is surrounded by palms that provide complete shade throughout the day.  Our land is also 1 acre (2.5 rai).

It's been a work in progress.....my only regrets is not taking out the santol trees and planting something new when we bought the land and not starting sooner with palms for wind/shade screening.

The secret to fast grown is lots of watering and lots of buffalo poop.
