Well it had to happen after years of Support Thai wife visas I made a mistake in the income declaration tax return whereby we paid tax for 6 months and this resulted in Immigration calculating our total ( my pension included) at less than the 40K.

I was refused last week and tomorrow is my final day. We spoke with Maesai Capt Thawarnsort who recommended I go visa exempt to Myanmar get 30 days, then go to Suan Plu and change it to Non Imm and then re-apply to MaeSai for Long stay again with correct tax documents.

Is this correct. I worry about the Suan Plu bit where I change to Non Imm. That isn't a tourist visa is it ?

Sadly they will not re-open my original application and stamp me under consideration, which of course would make life far simpler.

If anyone sees a confused and dazed one eyed 50+ male with a large chunk of Baht in his back pocket, wandering the streets of BKK, please be nice to me :o

You will get a 30 day tourist visa exemption stamp and be converting it to a Non "O" visa either on retirement or marriage.

It was only a visit from the Tax people to our house today that alerted us to this mistake. I just thought Immigration had treated my application as a work of fiction .

I was all ready to sod off to the Orkneys and open a restaurant. :o

If you are over 50 - why not convert to a retirement visa - it's easier.

That certainly sounds like the way to go.

Then, you only need 400K if I understand the rules?

Retirement extension requires 800k (in an account for 3 months before application) or 65k monthly income

This doesn't make sense, 400k for yourself and your wife, but 800k if you are single and over 50?

Could someone confirm this, please?

The 400k (and you don't have to spend it, right?) sounds like the better option, does one need to be officially married or is living together with a common law partner acceptable? (I can provide proof of a joint bank account and same residence)

You might want to consult Sunbelt before passing this informaton to immigration. By law Thais have to report all foreigners living in their domiciles. While it's unlikely, you may find yourself deported and your girlfriend (?) landed with a hefty fine.

If you are married you need an income of 40,000 Baht a month. If you are not then the best you can hope for is a Tourist Visa , unless you are over 50 then you need 800,000 in the bank to get a year based on retirement.
