Police on Wednesday launched a crackdown on two illegal clinics offering gender reassignment surgery which were operating as cosmetic clinics in the capital. The operation by the Cambodian Counter Counterfeit Committee (CCCC) of the Ministry of Interior was headed by Muth Dara, deputy prosecutor of Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

 

Police arrested three Vietnamese women and two Cambodian men, owners and managers of the businesses, accusing them of illegally operating the gender reassignment surgery without authorisation from the relevant authorities. Lieutenant General Tan Sokvichea, director of the Secretariat of the CCCC, identified the two illegal businesses as Gangnam Beauty & Clinics in Chamkar Mon district and Dr Kang Beauty Center in Tuol Kork district.

 

He said that a search of the two clinics was carried out after an investigation found that the owners had smuggled illegal medicines from abroad and performed gender reassignment surgeries, from women to men and from men to women, without proper permission. He said that police also found several brands of illegal medicines unlicensed by the Ministry of Health, as well as other surgical equipment, and an amount of male and female genital amputations stored in common plastic water bottles.

Can't see any great enthusiasm for this from the police......got to be quite a lucrative source of income for them.
