i have received my application pack

for prospective spouse for oz

goin thru it in pencil , 1st time and all

i know we need translatations of all her thai documents

but who does the certifying of copies of my documents ?

is it the same people ?

I think you have to take the translations to the Thai Ministry of Foreign affairs to get them approved. (On Chaeng Wattana Road, at Laksi)

Am going through the hoops at present too, we used this mob in BKK, they came recommended from a friend and did a good job for us too(well so far so good!).

This is what we had translated,

Birth certificate

Name Change certificate(she changed her name a few years back)

House book(the blue one)

Education certificates(university degree, nursing, anything that makes her look good!)

All we did was take all of the above to express and they did the rest, only the education translations will not be "certified", only translated.

Dont forget you will also need certified copies of her passport AND Thai ID, which I'm sure Express do too(we had these done in Bahrain as we could'nt leave her passport for aslong as they wanted)

Also put in a certified copy of YOUR passport, (as they have just asked me for one, why they dont ask for it in the first place, I don't know!)Along with the certified copy of your birth certificate.

remember to make copies of everything!

We need to get translations done also.

What was the cost involved? What was the time around?

They certify them with an accredited seal I take it?

Cant find the bloody reciepts but will keep lookin, off the top of my head i think it cost around 2000-3000Bht, for the housebook, birthcertificate and name change cert. also 3 other education certificates(these were not certified), will keep havin a look.Turnaround was about 4-5 days :o

It depends on the country you like to enter with your Thai girl. To make sure what kind of papers you realy need, you should ask the country embassy. They will tell you or give you written information in your own and the thai language. I know a case that the girl had to prove her police records. A statement of the local police station at the town where she is registered in the family book. The statement shows her records of crimes. But usualy there is just a writen paper necessary that points out that she was never involved in any criminal activity and has never been convicted.

Australia certainly requires a police clearance certificate for every applicant for preliminary residency.

The smart thing is to take as much information as you have. Better to have too much than too little.

You can get your certified translations from any legal office, English to Thai- Thai to English, make sure it's got the authentic red seal stamp.

Then as a previous poster mentioned take them to Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Chaeng Wattana.(Go by skytrain to Morchit and catch a taxi to Chaeng Wattana about 115-120 baht one way)Don't expect to get your papers back the same day (unless things have changed; but nothing ever does in Thailand) so best not go on a Friday.

Get everything copied in triplicate or you will waste time standing in line waiting for copying machines.

Cheaper to get married in Thailand and have the respective celebrations at her home and then yours. If she's from North/East Thailand she won't feel married until she has her own ceremony in her village anyway.

And if you've been married before don't forget your decree absolute as you can't get re-married without it - Unless you say you haven't been married before but this will be noted in the marriage documents.

I have e-mailed AU Immigration in BKK twice, but not had so much as a reply.

I asked all these questions about translations, time requirements for getting documents ready, etc, etc.

They didn't have the manners to say that they were unable to answer these questions. :o Where are we suppose to find out???

Maybe an e-mail to Amanda might be next? :D
