May 17, 200719 yr Hi, Two weeks ago my modem quit on a 3 months old PC. Win XP could no longer find it and all dial-up connections had disappeared. The modem was replaced with a new one (free because of warranty) and now WIN can 'see' it: but I am still unable to set up new dial-up connections, this option is greyed out: also I get this error: Any ideas how to get my dial-up / fax connections back? Our computer shop told me to use the WIN CD and run an upgrade. Could this help; is this safe to do; does it affect any other current settings and is it reversible via system restore if something goes wrong? We have WIN XP Pro SP2 legit with CD. any advise would be most welcome before I foul up everything. opalhort
May 17, 200719 yr Author Have you tried this.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899871 Thanks a lot Simmo problem solved! dial-up working now. could it be that because the old modem had a problem the service shut down and did not restart after the new modem was installed? opalhort
