Maybe the security door reduced the charge to "attempted theft", or failing that, the video might serve to provide the judge with evidence of stupidity as a possible mitigating factor.

Hey, he had a brilliant idea no one ever thought of before.

It looked like the owner has had this happen numerous times , he didn't seem fazed at all.

The first time I toured a cluster of gold shops I was a bit surprised at all of the gold openly on display, some in (presumably locked) display cases immediately outside of the shop.  I asked a local if it was all real.  They responded that "only the gold inside the shop" was real, which of course makes sense.
