snoop1130
BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s fruit exports continue to increase, despite the sluggish global economy caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, with key trade partners being countries that have free trade agreements (FTAs) with the kingdom. Thai durian, mangosteen, longan and mango are popular in China, Hong Kong and ASEAN member states. Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, Oramon Sapthaweetham, said Thai fruit exports, to 18 countries which have FTAs with Thailand, reported 107 percent growth in the first two months of 2021, compared to the same period of last year. The total trade value was US$461 million, accounting for 94.94 percent of the country’s total fruit exports. China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Australia and Chile are top importers of Thai fruits, especially fresh durian, mangosteen, longan and mango. Thai exporters are able to benefit from FTA privileges. Currently, Thailand is the 7th largest fruit exporter, and the country is expected to maintain continuous growth in the long term. This is an opportunity for farmers and traders to expand their export operations, particularly in markets which already have FTAs with the country. Thai farmers should maintain the standard of their produce, improve the product quality, to meet market demand, and adapt to the new trade environment during the COVID-19 situation, while building the confidence of consumers. They are encouraged to make use of FTA privileges to increase market share and create more value. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-04-14 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

I just hope they stiff the Thai exporters with import duty (or rename it 'special tax') as Thailand have done with Beer Laos which is also part of the FTA and is not supposed to have any import tax imposed on it, coming into Thailand.

Misterwhisper
Thai fruits, huh? Well... I've stumbled across quite a few of them during my extensive global travels pre-Covid. They're everywhere! Edited April 15, 2021 by Misterwhisper
