Ive just installed a CD / DVD/ MP3 player in my vehicle , Ive been

given 10 C D’s that have got music on them taken from a friends

music collection which were recorded in mp3 format from his

computer. When I play them in the new player I get a

An ERROR 1 . warning - according to the player manual

Error 1. is due to scratched or dirty CD's , but I get the same

error when I try to play all 10 disks, and they all look clean.

So I think it may be a problem that the new player is not

recognizing the disk record format ..? , when I play the CD's

on my computer the tracks are shown only as mp3.

Is there any way of seeing a bit more information

about the format of the CD's , by using my computer

and may be recording the tracks in another format

that may play in my new player, to see the current

CD format I play them in Windows Media Player 10

I cannot get in touch with my friend who gave me

the CD's to ask him about the recording format

any one have an idea how I can get the 10 CD's to

play in my new CD player ....?

Thanks ... Mumbo

I would recommend right clicking one of those files on the cd and choosing "Properties". Click on the "Summary" tab at the top. Go down and click on the "Advanced >>" button. Compare the properties listed against the manufacturer's manual says the cds should be encoded at. For instance, the files on the cd may be VBR and your player only supports CBR, or they could be at a higher bit rate than the player supports.

Another issue maybe the way the files were put on the cd. If they were all just dumped on without any type of file structure, that may be an issue. If there are too many nested folders, that may be an issue. If the cds were mastered in a way that the player doesn't support, that could be an issue.

I'm sorry there are so many variables, but if I could know more about the player, I could be a better help. A lot of the things I've just listed were encountered by me specifically when I installed a mp3 player previously. Funniest thing though....I found that it usually choked on my higher bit rate mp3s, and sounded MUCH better running mp3s at 128 kb/s. That's actually always bothered me.

First thing, wow that's really bad english in the manual. I would have expected better from Panasonic, which is a good brand in my eyes.

This may be a turkey, but according to what I'm reading, you're definitely within the bit rate specifications. My guess would be thus: You/your friend may have used Multi session disk, or not properly "closed" a disk at once burn. I can walk you through the settings in Nero if that's what you have.

The question you have about the "This Player cannot play the CD-R / RW disks which contain other

than CD-DA or MP3 / DivX data" is answered in that sometimes people have divx files that need subtitles. Apparently this will confuse the player. Also, some people, myself included, like to include files in the folders that have album art, lyrics, etc. However, ID3v2 has obviated much need for this.

I don't know if you yahoo, but my nick is the same as on this forum, drop me a line and we can work on it real time.

I've got the same system in my car (it was already installed by Mitsubishi when I bought it) and I've had no problems. It plays any disc in any format, CD,VCD,MP3 and DVD, both original and copies. For converting/copying discs I use a'Roxio Easy Media Creator 8' program. Maybe it's the program your using to do the copying thats the problem. I had a friend recently who was trying to put all his home video recordings onto DVD. He was using Nero to do this but found the DVD's would only play on a computor and some 'cheap' DVD players (badly, kept blocking), they wouldn't play on any quality DVD players. I recopied them using Roxio and then they would then play on any machine. I didn't burn from his original video I just copied his faulty Nero disc. Try it, you've got nothing to lose, except a couple of blank discs.

My last stereo was super sensitive to media.. Needed high quality TDK or verbatim type disks and no finger prints etc..

Also seems from the blurb it may choke if they are in folders or have additional files..

Just went and got a great Sony for 3500 baht.. Aux in on the front for IPOD or other MP3 stick also.. groups MP# by albums so on a disk with 100's of tracks in albums yuou can next album through them.. Plays all discs, no complaints so far..

I would second the Sony; sounds like the Panasonic is way too choosy on what it will play. MP3s and CDR have been rounds for quite a few years now, so there is no excuse. My Sony plays pretty much anything, although I had to ensure CDRs are burned using Joliet format.

Only thing about the Sony is the key layouts, it assumes you will be mainly playing regular audio cds rather than mp3 cds. I mean its a little dated in how someone will use it and could be a little better in terms of key layout for MP3 use. Other than that is cheap, reliable and does the job.

try loading a few tracks on to your hard drive, then convert to 128 kbps, burn to disc and try playing that.

if this works, then do the same with all your discs, but you will end up with more than 10 discs because the file size for each track will have increased.

also i wouldnt subnest folders, eg if you have say 6 albums on a disc, make sure the disc shows 6 folders, one for each album.
