BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has explained that Thailand has entered into an agreement on the exchange of vaccines, which is different from joining the Covax Facility.

Ministry spokesman Thanee Saengrat issued the clarification in response to a news report that Thailand had changed its position on joining Covax.

He said the vaccine swap arrangement is an agreement between two parties, when one country wishes to obtain vaccines from another, which has surplus vaccine, and return it later when there is enough vaccine in the country.

The spokesman said entering into a vaccine swap arrangement is separate from negotiating a vaccine purchase agreement or joining Covax.

Mr. Thanee explained that the cooperation between Thailand and Covax is as a donor country. The Thai government donated US$100,000 to The Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, through the WHO, to support the development and allocation of vaccines and drugs as Global Public Goods, in December last year.

So what he means is Thailand wants to 'borrow' some vaccines.

Quickly,  go to Hong Kong to borrow before they are expired.  They have so much excess, their citizens refused to be vaccinated.

Some countries exchange CASH for Vaccine and that's probably why they get it delivered faster !

Interesting that so many government/quasi-government spokespeople are "misunderstood", and their original statements need "clarification".

It's embarrassing. Clearly no one is checking the bosses work these days. Recipe for failure.

Yes ,the shelf life is about to expire  on some ! Shame !

The counterpart for such a swap surely only exists in the vast realm of fiction.

Seriously, this idea sounds just insane.

I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a vaccine today.

I think if they have come up with a plan to borrow western vaccines and repay them with the chinese gunk later then its either about to fall flat on its face or there will be some very angry countries out there soon

In other words:

"Can we borrow some vaccine from you to get out of the sh*t and we'll send you some back next year when we've got our act together"

is it not more of a ploy to borrow, exchange, import chinese vaccines?

may be they can come with AZ or pfizer labels

" And while you are at it, can I borrow a few fresh Chilies for my Somtam .

I seem to have run out, because the Market was shut this Morning "

Its like turning the clock back to the late 1950's

& laughing at Billy Bunter cadging from his peers using the guise of his supposed forthcoming postal order

This government was totally sideswiped by thinking they were not going to see this third wave, and they would have plenty of time to "capitalize" on vaccinations. Should be a case study in every classroom teaching on pandemics going forward.

So Thailand is signing up to donate excess vaccines to Covax when the country currently is experiencing a vaccine shortage.  ????

Of course - that makes all the sense in the world.

Is he joking? $100.00 only? That's not even worth mentioning and yet they expect to get some vaccines out of this donation?
