Television is the most trusted media platform for information about COVID-19, according to the  latest Suan Dusit Poll.

 

The poll asked which channels people used to get information about COVID-19, with most saying social media (74.81%), followed by television (59.49%), private individuals (34.13%),  news websites and apps (29.66%) and SMS (6,46%).

 

When asked about the most trusted source for information, television (85.24%) came out on top, even ahead of academics (69.33%), government agencies (67.56%), newspapers (57.79%) and news websites (49.38%).

 

When asked about how reliable the sources of information were, 52.4% said they provided knowledgeable information for various angles. However, 49.09% said they thought some sources contain rumours, false news and were exaggerated. 39.57% said they thought sources dramatise news for commercial purposes.

When asked how they chose a news source, 78.32% of respondents said they picked one which clearly stated its sources and references, while 58.48% said they would choose renowned sources or recognised agencies. 

 

54.57% said they they opted for evidence based information, while 50.17% looked at the government agencies with direct responsibility in a matter for information. 49.16% chose information from academics.

 

The online poll was conducted between May 31 and June 3 and had 1,213 respondents throughout Thailand.
