BANGKOK (NNT) - The Labor and Industry ministries are speeding up efforts to vaccinate employees, including factory workers, as COVID-19 threatens to slow activity in the industrial sector if infections spread.

Labor Minister Suchart Chomklin said the government needs to use vaccines to control disease transmission in Bangkok, which currently has the most cases in the country. The ministry plans to finish the vaccination of more than 2.46 million employees in Bangkok this month.

He said factory workers need protection because the industrial sector makes a significant contribution to the country’s exports and GDP, adding that the Labor Ministry expects to vaccinate another 2.27 million employees in July.

Meanwhile, Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit said there are 3.3 million workers inabout 64,000 factories under the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) and the Industrial Works Department. The ministry has prepared 27 vaccination venues and the IEAT expects to start the vaccination of 677,619 factory workers under Section 33 in eight industrial estates on July 1.

Have all the elderly, infirm, and at risk been vaccinated yet?

If so, wonderful.
If not, then why does wealth trump public health?
