Cambodia marked the 13th anniversary of the inscription of Preah Vihear Temple as a World Heritage Site yesterday. “July 7 marks the 13th anniversary of the inscription of Preah Vihear Temple as a World Heritage Site at the 32nd Meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee on July 7, 2008 in Quebec, Canada, after the International Court of Justice in The Hague on June 15, 1962 ruled that the temple belongs to Cambodia,” the Premier said in a Facebook message yesterday.

“Please take part in preserving and protecting all the ancient temples throughout the country for the benefit of all generations of Cambodians,” he added. Preah Vihear National Authority director-general Kong Puthika told Khmer Times yesterday that since 2008, the authority has conserved and repaired the stairs and drainage system among others.

He said that India has already studied necessary repairs and approved $5.5 million to repair the fifth gopura of Preah Vihear Temple as soon as possible. “The Cambodia government via the Ministry of Culture will continue to work with the international community to conserve Preah Vihear temple as a world heritage,” Puthika said.
