Oxx
Reportedly your boss, Brian Davidson, married his American boyfriend Scott Chang at the British Ambassador's residence in Beijing, China, where same-sex marriage is not permitted, in 2014. Now that Mr. Davidson is a British Ambassador himself, is he prepared to perform same sex marriage ceremonies at his residence in Bangkok? And if not, why not? 1
mfd101
The British ambassador's residence in Beijing is probably part of the British Embassy so British law applies there. Outside the embassy Chinese law applies. A gay marriage performed under British law is unlikely to be recognized by China (though it could be - perhaps - under international law/human rights considerations). Same applies in Thailand mutatis mutandis. What happens in practice may vary widely.
Caldera
That's an excellent question and I'm curious if you'll get an honest answer. My guess is that they perform this kind of special service only for special cookies, such as fellow diplomats.
British Consular Team
Apologies for missing this question, Oxx. Same-sex marriage is possible at the British Embassy in Beijing. Marriages conducted there are under UK law, so recognised in the UK and other countries where same-sex marriage is legal. Same-sex marriage is not permitted at the present time in Thailand. https://www.gov.uk/marriage-abroad
