BANGKOK (NNT) - The government will accelerate vaccinating people in Greater Bangkok and other areas with high-infection rates after having almost completed its initial target of immunizing all healthcare workers.

Department of Disease Control (DDC) Director-General Dr Opas Karnkawinpong insists the department has ample supplies to administer 10 million doses a month of AstraZeneca and Sinovac to those living in Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

He added that the government is looking at other brands with a strong reputation and has recently placed an order with Pfizer.

Dr Opas also explained that the use of a mix of vaccines may help to boost immunity against emerging strains of the virus. Immunity could be achieved two weeks after taking mixed doses a month apart.

The government hopes cross-vaccination will help it maximize its current resources and will administer five million doses of Sinovac and six million doses of AstraZeneca a month.

An actual world experiment they "hope" will work?

Unbelievable about this there are no real studies on mixing vaccines as they plan.

I hope it works also and people do not die.

Have they? Has the Pfizer purchase really been finalized already, with a confirmed delivery timeline? I don't think so, but given the grave situation, I'd be very happy to be proven wrong!

Not sure that the word accelerate is understood?

Yeah, 9.5 mm of sinovac and 500 k of the real vaccine.

This guy needs to remove his mask once in a while, seems to be suffering from oxygen to the brain deficiency.

oh boy, bangkok and surrounding areas, screw all you folks in other provinces who have been dilligent about precautions...only bangkok counts, and the govt will let them roam about the country at will...

If one looks at daily case counts (admittedly not a completely accurate picture because testing is limited by logistics), Bangkok itself (not including surrounding provinces) has less than one-fifth of national totals.

IMV, case counts in every province are due to the fact the generals have no stones to prevent interprovincial travel, starting with Songkran. Too late now, Thailand is one big petri dish.

Will we become India, Italy or the UK is the only question.

Stop 'looking at' other brands and just order them already!!!  Get it in gear!!!  If Pfizer has actually been ordered where is it?  When will it arrive?  When can we book it?

Studies in the time of Covid are no longer required, needed, or ever wanted.

Nowadays all that is required is this phrase: "Experts Say....."

This is right up there with Anutin and Prayuth statements a few months back that Thailand has vaccines of all kinds for everyone in Thailand.  So they are rolling that back out again.  Clever.
