Supreme Court stands firm on 20 years jail for police officer

A former penal police officer’s appeal against his 20 years in prison and a fine of $10,000 to be put in the State’s budget for possession of two kilogrammes of drugs by a lower court in 2013 was upheld by the Supreme Court today.

 

Kang Svanndara, 47, was ordered by the Supreme Court to serve his sentence as was imposed by the Kampong Speu provincial court and upheld by the Appeal Court on December 20, last year.

 

Svanndara who lived in Kampong Speu province’s Phnom Srouch district committed the offence in 2012 and was sentenced on July 23, 2013.
