The European Union (EU) has pledged €1.7 billion (about $2 billion) to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) with an objective to help reform education system in 90 countries around the world including Cambodia.

In announcing this on July 31, the Delegation of the European Union to Cambodia said the pledge of about $2,017,388,300 was made during the Global Education Summit in London on July 29 by the European Union and its Member States, called “TeamEurope”. “(…) to help transform education systems for more than one billion girls and boys in up to 90 countries and territories,” wrote the EU in its press release.

According to the EU, this amount of money will be the biggest contribution to the GPE adding to its €700 million (about $830 million) pledge for 2021-2027 in June. This huge amount of money is the EU’s intention to help countries around the world to face challenges caused by the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on children’s education. And it is the EU’s determination to act against the virus.
