A vast majority of Thai people still have serious concerns about the worsening COVID-19 pandemic. The level of happiness, among people in Bangkok and the newly designated ‘dark red’ provinces, has decreased by 2% from June, according to a survey conducted by the Hakuhodo Institute of Life and Living ASEAN (Thailand) in collaboration with Socius.

The latest study, conducted online between 17th and 26th June with 1,200 respondents aged 20 to 59 across Thailand, indicates that Thai people have become less happy as a result of the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many Thai consumers are, however, spending more, despite the difficult economic conditions. Most consumers accept the need for spending on essential goods, particularly food and other necessities, for themselves and their families.

Good.

The next step must be ask themselves: Last year we were proud of our numbers in front of the world.

But why this year the situation worsened?

What was the watershed?

It's too easy to blame the government when something goes wrong.

The government was wrong to allow travel during songkran. But the people should have used common sense and stayed where they were.....the general population acted very irresponsibly and complains that the government are too strict.

If they were a bit more responsible the government wouldn't need to treat them like idiots.

Shutting down a large share of economy exacerbates the problem. Printing and giving away money solves nothing. Watch how all prices will be rising much faster than before over the next years as governments over the world try to print out of the problem they themselves created. Fresh printed money will be chasing goods and services that are in a crippled state of production. Fixed income will be destroyed. Economy does not forgive getting screwed like that. Covid is going to be the least of the worries.

Seeing masks worn properly is  comparative with seeing helmets on motorcyclists,  up here in my neck of the rice patties. Mitigation for some  is a hassle for others.
