Aerial photography showed the tricky operation conducted by rescue foundation Ruam Katanyu after a woman crab collector spotted a dead body on a mudbank in the Chao Praya estyuary opposite a school in Bang Poo, Samut Prakan.

Bang Poo police captain Komkrit Thongurai alerted the rescue foundation who had to wade through chest deep mud for hours to get to the body that was face down on a mud bank 200 meters from the bank.

The man was aged about 25-30 and there were no signs of injury, reported Sanook.

He was wearing just a single pair of blue swimming trunks.

He had a tattoo of a rose on the right side of his back with the words in English: Rose of Love.

He had a Buddhist amulet on a string around his neck.

He was thought to have been dead for three days and was taken away for a full autopsy.

The body was discovered by a woman going back to her crab pots she had laid out days earlier.

The police are keeping an open mind about what happened to the man.

Sorry, but if they were certain he was dead - and face down in the mud make that easy to see - then why risk lives.  Just wait until the tide comes in and use a boat to get the body.

Because that takes lateral thinking, something that is missing here.
