Cambodian border provinces facing Thailand unite to combat Delta Variant

Faced with the daunting tasks of receiving thousands of returning Cambodian migrant workers from Thailand, provinces bordering Thailand are uniting to share resources, facilities and information to tackle the inflow of migrants seamlessly and efficiently. Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey and Pailin are all facing a deluge of migrant workers who in the words of all governors of the said provinces are “Not just returning from Thailand.

 

They are literally moving house, they bring everything with them, including poultry, pets, large household utensils, etc. “This has put a strain on out logistical capabilities as we need more trucks to transport not only the workers but also their possessions and we take care to ensure their worldly possessions are protected from the elements as we are fully aware that these workers have slogged and worked hard to buy these utensils,” the Governor of Pailin, Ban Sreymom told Khmer Times late last week on her office.

 

Faced with this logistical nightmare, Banteay Meanchey province has appealed for more trucks and army commander Lt. General Hun Manet had dispatched 20 additional trucks.
