BANGKOK (NNT) - Following the protest led by the Thalugaz (protesters going through tear gas) group in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district yesterday (Aug 23), police have arrested three people and seized illegal items, including weapons, ping-pong bombs and narcotics, and have summoned the parents of students involved in the protest for neglecting their responsibilities by allowing their offspring to be involved in wrongdoing.

Deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol. Maj. Gen. Piya Tawichai, said today that the protest started at 5:30 p.m. yesterday, with protesters hurling objects and causing damage to property, including government offices, using fire bombs, firecrackers, fireworks and ping-pong bombs. Local residents were affected. Protesters also set fires in several locations, including areas in front of the Royal Thai Army Band Department and areas under the Din Daeng expressway. Police arrested three protestors and seized two motorcycles, and found ping-pong bombs, explosives, weapons and narcotics in their possession. They were taken to a police station for questioning on charges of violating the emergency decree; the Disease Control Act; the Narcotic Drugs Act and the ban on public gatherings of more than five people, as well as causing unrest and increasing the risk of spreading COVID-19.

From July to August, police have prosecuted 111 cases, involving 591 suspects. Police have arrested 284 people and issued 127 summons, which include those violating the Computer Crime Act by spreading fake news.

As for the summoning of parents of those involved in the protest for violating the Child Protection Act by allowing their children to commit wrongdoing. Meanwhile, Pol. Maj. Gen. Piya said officers will adjust their crowd control operation in accordance with the protest situation. Today, there have been reports that protesters may resort to violence, spread nails on roads and set fires in some areas. Members of the public have been asked to help the authorities by recording the action of people committing the offence, which can be used as legal evidence.

Are the Generals summoning the parents of the police officers who killed the drug dealer while trying to extort 2 million baht from his at the station in NakhonSawon.  Just what are mommy and daddy going to say or do, or are they going to imprison them to make a point to the children as they are ultimately responsible for the way juveniles conduct themselves.  Such a farce, if anything they should do this for all of the kids that run amuck and ride their scooters at all hours of the night.  Yes arrest the parents.....oh the sarcasm

OK, I get that it's a different culture and all that... were the students at university? Are they over 18? "the Child Protection Act by allowing their children to commit wrongdoing. " Did they have parents of red bull cop killer in to dress them down?

Did they invite the PM's parents in? "Don't you know it is was illegal to overthrow a democratically elected government?"

Police: "Your children are very bad, they are trying to throw the government out so that the country can try to recover and improve from one of its worst crisis, which was created by said government's incompetence in the first place. In the name of democracy, we'll now send you to jail".

Might be a bit reductive, but you get the gist.

Yes, it regards children under 18 or 21 as the age for some things is in Thailand.

Maybe if they didn't insist on continuing to treat the entire nation like little kids, the bigger kids would not be <deleted> off, and their parents would not need to be <deleted> upon. Bastille Day one day, keep pushing the people, and find out when.

Now they can call the whole nation than to the station... loud music, speeding, drive like crazy, smoking, drinking beer, too long hair in schools, rapists, parents of Red Bull heir for bribing, no helmets on motorcycles, too young on motorcycles, no drivers licenses and so on and so on.. the list is endless....Good than they have no time anymore to shoot on kids with rubber bullets, tear gas, chemical water.. O wait I forget these policemen have parents too so they have to be called too

I hope Prayuth and Anutin have an exit plan for when the parents come knocking, the kids are the least of their worries, this place is a ticking bomb waiting to explode from what I can see - folks are not at all pleased and it's not red or yellow .................... it's all of them

Can't intimidate the protesters, so they go after their parents?! What century are we living in?

They obviously don't know how to deal with this form of disobedience.

This government is going Full China.

But with thanks to Cato the Elder, China delenda est.

So a law meant to "protect" children is used to threaten parents. Yeah, that works, well, maybe it did 150 years ago.

Amazing thailand.

There's a law, three actually, for everything here.

Further oppression will simply exacerbate the problem.

The key is to DE-ESCALATE, by allowing peaceful protests and engaging in dialog. Treat people like adults, treat them as equals, listen to them

"allowing their children to commit wrongdoing"

They have been arrested but not prosecuted and convicted except by the police. So make that alleged wrongdoing.

That would be consistent with Thailand's alleged judicial system.

I’m sure my parents knew/know where I was/am 24/7 and it is their fault should I ‘misbehave’, whatever age. What next, life in a gulag for 3 generations of a family due to the transgressions of a kid? Still going backwards Thailand.
