Mr. Farage does not deny receiving a gift. It was prior to his entry into politics. Corruption requires a violation of an existing statute, and to date there is no allegation that he did so. What specific law did he break when accepting the gift? Yes, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is investigating whether the gift violated Commons rules because it was not specifically declared. However, Commons Rules are just that rules and not law. If an MP takes money in exchange for his vote, then that is a violation of a Commons Rule and a specific law. If an MP accepts money from lobbyists without filing a declaration, that too is a violation of a commons rule and a specific law. If a private citizen accepts a financial gift, it is a personal matter. Farage was not an MP when he received the gift intended to cover his personal security expenses. Mr. Farage did provide a declaration of his assets when he became an MP. The issue appears to be whether or not the declaration was compliant with the Commons regulations and if there was an intention to deceive. Once the investigation is complete and it finds a violation of the rule, then you can point your finger. It would have to be shown that there was an intent to commit a criminal act in order for there to be corruption and to date there is no evidence of that.
