PHUKET: Phuket officials have tabled making further changes to the requirements for domestic visitors to enter the province in the hope of providing a means to boost the island’s flailing economy.

 

Phuket Vice Governor Pichet Panapong explained at a meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday (Sept 18) that the meeting was being held specifically to consider solving the problems of people affected by the announcement of Phuket Province Order 5407/2564 on travel screening measures for entering Phuket.

 

The order was issued by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew on Sept 11 and came into effect on Wednesday (Sept 15).

So the proposal is; if you are resident in Thailand, are fully vaccinated, take a test that is negative and register your phone on a tracking app, you can enter Phuket.

 

not exactly the most lax conditions. Why not just do it?

To only let in people that can prove vaccination or a negative test is designed to protect Phuket's population from the Virus .

But at 200 daily infections , the Virus arrived in Phuket already .

Do not see much sense in further restricting the access to Phuket .... ?

Open up phuket now. Stop all restrictions and special rules for Phuket. Go on with life. All had the possibility to got vaccination here.

Just keep in mind, and acknowledge that the local market, is at least as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than the international market.

 

It is time to just get rid of all restrictions, and let the Thai people get back to work. Double vaccines, multiples covid negative tests, and thanks so much for coming. Have a great time in our devastated nation.

The purpose is not actually to eradicate the virus , it is to reduce its spreading and like many countries to open slowly  the activities , so Covid test and certicate vaccination are the only way to control this pandemic up to now.

Seems to me that Phuket is exactly the place not to go if you want to avoid COVID.

Get fully vaccinated . Avoid indoor events and get on with life . Covid is becoming endemic so at a certain point we will all catch it hoping that beeing fully vaccinated symptoms will not be more than a flu ....

You must be joking. Do you know how many millions are waiting for a 1st quality jab in this country and cannot get it ?

if they do relax requirements for domestic entry then it would seem  they will have to either have those same reduced  restrictions on international tourists, or, have a convuleted explanation why there are 2 different requirements. although, i guess they could just shrug and continue milking the foreign atm

You make a good point.  However, many people do not have a choice and for the moment have to take what they can get.  Anything is better than nothing and at some point the Thai government will start to distribute vaccines that are better.  I understand that they have already ceased purchasing Sinovac?
