Friend needs to get a new Venezuelan passport, but the closest Embassy is in Malaysia, any options?

Recommended Posts

So, this is not for me directly but a friend of mine who has a serious problem. He needs a new passport because his old one is expiring, but the Venezuelan Embassy is in Malaysia and in order to get a passport and get the biometric data scanned, he needs to go there, wait a few weeks and then come back, which also involves quarantine in both Malaysia and then again Thailand.

Does anyone know if there's a way around this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have this same problem as my country doesn’t have any representation or embassy anywhere in Asia. Nearest embassy would be found in the UK!! We also have the biometric passport and have a 5 year validity on the passport itself. So, every 5 years when I need to renew, to save going to my own country, I get a friend to renew the passport for me in my own countries passport office and send it back by dhl. It’s a lot easier than going to an embassy and, especially right now, having to go to another country and do continuous quarantines in order to get it done. All I have to do is to scan the pages of my current passport, send a digitized passport photo along with my scanned signature and my friends print it out and take it to the passport office. Within a week it’s ready and on its way over to me. No fuss, no hassles with traveling. They can encode the bio data from their records in the passport office without needing to go there to do it again.

Isn't there a Venezuela embassy in Vietnam, might logistics be better than Malaysia?

Just found this, maybe make direct contact with the Venezuela government or embassies:

"On June 7, 2019, Venezuelan interim President Guaido signed a decree extending the validity of previously issued Venezuelan passports for an additional five years past their printed (sic) date of expiration."

Recognized by the US and Canada for entry.

That is interesting. Perhaps, the OP's friend should contact Thai immigration with a copy of this announcement, and see if the Thai authorities are also accepting this automatic extension without the passport being endorsed.
