During and after the COVID-19 issue, Prime Minister Hun Sen made a crucial declaration about the repair and reopening of Cambodia's tourism sector.

The Prime Minister says in the statement (unofficial translation):

‘It has been 18 months since the Covid-19 crisis has brought disaster to the whole world, in which global tourism, as well as in Cambodia, has been suffering serious negative impact.  This has prompted the governments of many countries to open and lock down the region or the country many times while vaccination campaigns are underway to build herd immunity aimed at promoting socio-economic recovery in accordance with the new normal context.

Based on the vision of “thinking about the people, thinking about the economy, thinking about the future”, the Royal Government adheres to a proactive and practical spirit with a clear plan to promote Cambodia’s tourism sector by launching a “Roadmap on Rehabilitation Plan of tourism of Cambodia during and after the Covid-19 crisis and the tourism development master plan for the main targets, which are key documents as strategic goals for the future of Cambodia’s tourism sector.

At the same time, the need for the gradual resumption of full economic activity is assessed as an emergency and in accordance with the new normal context , as the tourism market situation will be narrower with higher competition in terms of  product and service quality, price, confidence in the safety of tourist destinations, measures to control the situation of Covid-19 pandemic, and travel facilitation.  These points are key factors for tourists in deciding to choose a tourist destination in a new context.  In this regard, the Strategic Plan for the Opening of Vaccine Tourism will be an important strategic document for the launch of gradual resumption of international tourist reception based on the principle of maintaining a balance between socio-economic activities and  ensuring the safety and public health with efforts to return as soon as possible to the “new normal” of people’s daily lives.
