moving to LOS

Featured Replies

Firstly hello to everybody as i am the new guy

Next year i am planning to retire to Thailand ( covid allowing) with my Thai wife, we hope to buy a house and i hope to get a retirement visa

I have a couple of questions,

If i buy a house in my wifes name and she dies can i still live in the house?

What is the best type of visa to go for?

we will be renting while we look for a house to buy how does this effect me getting a visa

I have been going to LOS since 1989 and i have lived there for a year 10 years ago so i do have an idea of the reality of moving there.

All replies will be gratefully received.

The best visa/extension of stay will depend on your situation, so I let the experts answer that question.

As for being able to live in the house, you are allowed to inherit the house/land, but only for a 6-month period to sell it. You can apply to extend this one time by another 6 months. Another way is to let the house go to a trusted relative and have a usufruct on it, i.e. you get to live there for the rest of your life.

Edit: In all situations like this, make sure not to trust advice like this (including mine), but use it only as a guideline. Consult a lawyer or other professional for any important decisions!
