ASEAN NOW
The country is on high alert for the new Omicron strain, according to the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control. The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning to countries about the new B1.1.529 strain of Covid-19, nicknamed "Omicron," which was first detected in South Africa on November 24. According to a statement released by the Taskforce yesterday, the new version of the virus may be far more transmissible than prior strains. According to the WHO, this variation contains a huge number of mutations, some of which are alarming, and early research shows that this variant increases the risk of reinfection. The frequency of Omicron cases appears to be growing in practically all of South Africa's provinces. Residents in Laos should take extra measures against Covid-19, according to the Laos Taskforce, because the variation might develop in the population at any time. It is advised that everyone be immunized as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the Taskforce said it will begin testing to identify which Covid-19 versions are prevalent in Laos. A meeting of the government and appropriate authorities will be held to discuss the Omicron variant and determine whether further actions should be taken in response to the danger.
