Cambodia given rights to produce Sinovac C-19 vaccine

Featured Replies

Cambodia has been given the authorisation to produce the Sinovac-CoronaVac Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use. Announcing this yesterday, Prime Minister Hun Sun said: “We’ve got the authorisation and an agreement to the effect was signed between Cambodian and China companies with support from both governments.”

“We have been granted the right to produce the vaccines in our own country, which enables us to use it for our own use and also to distribute to other countries,” he added. He said the approval was given because it is yet to be known when this Covid-19 pandemic will end and furthermore it is also being produced in Indonesia while Thailand has been given the rights to produce the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Ministry of Health spokeswoman, Or Vandine told Khmer Times yesterday that the Ministry has yet to get the details on this while Mr Hun Sen’s personal assistant Eang Sophalleth, said he is not aware of this new development. On November 17, Mr Hun Sen had made a formal request through the Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian seeking an authorisation to produce the Covid-19 vaccine in Cambodia.
