Tuol Sleng Museum yesterday inaugurated a temporary exhibition aimed at remembering the victims of S-21 through the preservation of their clothes. Secretary of state at the Ministry of Culture Prak Sonnara said in his opening speech that “The exhibition is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and the US Embassy to preserve the Tuol Sleng genocide museum to ensure that future generations would be aware of the history of S-21.”

He added that after the collapse of Democratic Kampuchea, the government had faced many challenges to rebuild the country. Nearly all established institutions had been destroyed completely, and the deaths of nearly two million Khmer had a detrimental effect on the human resources of the nation.

“Although the genocidal regime was deposed in 1979, civil war continued until 1998, when Cambodia first found peace following decades of civil war, thanks to the implementation of the ‘win-win’ policy of Prime Minister Hun Sen,” said Sonnara. “The government has tried to find justice for victims of the genocidal regime and continues to preserve historical evidence to ensure that the victims are never forgotten”, he added.
