Thai quarantine affects some flights into Kingdom

After the suspension of the ‘Thailand Pass’ scheme, the number of flights between Bangkok and Phnom Penh has decreased about 20 percent due to the re-imposition of mandatory quarantine stays on arrival in Thailand.

 

Sin Chansereyvutha, State Secretariat of Civil Aviation secretary of state, said yesterday that after Thailand’s quarantine-free travel pass was suspended amid concerns over the spread of the Omicron variant, the number of flights between two countries starting to decrease.

 

He said that the adding of more flights between the two countries was discussed when both nations decided to open their borders last month, but that these discussions changed immediately due to the arrival of Omicron. He added that Thailand had re-imposed restrictions on entry, which presented a major challenge to tourists as they were now required to quarantine for seven days, even if fully vaccinated.
