Quality tourist here. Where is my red carpet and smiles?
It's all about optics. Thailand wanting "quality tourists" mean they want to have a certain kind of tourist because they perceive that as increasing the country's reputation. It doesn't mean that they will be welcoming to the "right kind of tourist" in a way they aren't to anyone else. In reality, it has nothing to do with the tourists themselves. You've also got to remember that "quality tourists" are high class and high spending tourists who behave in a respectful manner, so you aren't going to find a warmer level of welcome from a lower priced establishment. -

Thai Tax on UK pensions
My main reason for bringing the money over is as a $250K "Investment" to support my application for an LTR Visa. I can show an income of >$40K pa today, but I need to invest the $250K to get the visa & my PCLS will get me there (or at least close enough where I can make up the difference from money I'm currently not remitting to Thailand because of these tax changes). It doesn't hurt that I love to travel & the recent discussions about Thais getting Visa free entry to the EU/UK would make mine/GFs travel plans so much easier Pre-Covid I worked in SG (12 years) & after a couple of years never spent a full month without leaving the country, since Covid I feel like I've become reluctant to travel (Yes I did visit UK & came back during the mandatory quarantine times) so a reason (excuse) to travel more feels like something I need 🙂 -

been there, done that. its ok for illegal immigrants to move their families in but not us, many generation citizens. @stoner knows his stuff so good to ask him info if you need. FYI... unless you have lived 20 years MINIMUM up to 40 years capped in canada after the age of 18 you will not be entitled to any pension. if your wife moves there and thinks canada is great for its bennies she will have to do her 20-40 years as a citizen before being entitled to a pittance of a pension. if you are married and you sponsor her and for some reason you get divorced and she goes on welfare.... you will have to reimburse the gvt. i've been saying it a long time... canada, particularly quebec, sucks!!! -
