The Thai forestry official who attacked his ex girlfriend's car and house in Pakham district of Buriram in Thailand's NE has been found dead.

Former colleagues of Phitphirun, 45, who were searching for him found him hanging from a tree in the Dong Yai forested area.

Phitphirun was the ex of Kanya Anthaisong, 37. In the attack he shot and killed her son Natthapong after shooting him in the face when he came out of a room.

We earlier reported that Kanya was staying with her foreign partner at the time on a yearly visit.

Kanya told Thai Rath that she was surprised that her former lover took this way out. She thought he'd be too scared to do that.

But she accepted it was the end of the matter - a life for a life.

She recounted how she could smell her son everywhere she went even though the family had moved out of the house since the attack the weekend before last fearing Phitphirun or Klaep would return.

She said she would pay her respects to the corpse but would take no active part in the funeral as her ex's relatives from Amnat Charoen had made no attempt to help her since the shooting.

She said that she thinks his forestry unit - a government department - should pay her compensation as they were negligent in allowing a gun to be taken and a pick-up.

The body - apparently a suicide - was found after a search mounted by the dead man's former colleague Phai Chertram who had joined with six others to search a new area.

He was sad that his close friend had chosen this way out rather than facing the law.

He said that he had spoken to him about his wish to make a life with Kanya by selling up assets and looking after her.

The body was found 2-3 kilometers from an office in the Pa Roi Roo area.

He was sure it was Phitpirun beause a gun from the office was by a tree and his clothes all matched.

Police have been informed.

No mention was made of the foreigner in the story.
