A Vietnamese man, on a solo voyage in an inflatable dinghy from Phuket across the Indian Ocean to search for his Indian wife in Mumbai, whom he has not seen for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been rescued from the sea by Thai fishermen.

The marine security unit of the Third Fleet of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) received a radio report today (Wednesday) from the skipper of a Thai fishing trawler, reporting that they found a yellow and blue rubber dinghy, about 2.5 metres long, floating in the Andaman sea about 80 kilometres from the shore.

The skipper also reported that there was a man in the boat with some luggage, an almost empty tank of drinking water and some packs of instant noodles. He said that he was afraid that the unidentified sailor, who barely speaks English, might be in danger if left at sea and decided to tow him to safety.

  • hoping to sail the 2,000 km across the Indian Ocean to India to look for his wife.

  • had been floating at sea for 18 days and nights, until he was found by the trawler.

18 days to go 80km, with another 1920km to go.  That was going to be a long trip.  With just some noodles and a jug of water...  Gotta admire his dedication to find his wife, but not so much the planning.

Oh dear, I can see a heart break story coming.

Poor guy risking his life for love.

Time to find a new wife.

I worked in Vietnam and found the Vietnamese woman beautiful.

I got attached to one beauty, they are everywhere.

It's A no-brainer to stay put in Vietnam, it's a healthy option.

Say that again.

I wonder what his plan B will be?

That is not a rubber dingy its plastic. I don't believe one word of his story.

Some years ago (70s I think) someone else tried that in a converted wardrobe and a shed load of rice headed for India.  He got picked up whilst still in the River Thames!

Exactly. Few ethnicities compare to Thai women, but Viet women are definitely do. They are stunning and approachable.

One really does wonder why a Viet guy would venture to Indian women. It's highly unusual. Like 1 in 90 million or so. My guess would be he's not all there, and his ill-conceived journey lends to this theory.

it's a stunt seeking attention

Good that the navy didn't sell him.

I have often said to my family and friends,  Thai and Viet women are among the most attractive in the world.  You can't go wrong with either one.

If he has to search, then she hasn't kept in touch - illness, death, didn't want to, etc.  Still, he should find her easily, there are only 21.000,000 in Mumbai.

I also worked in India for a couple of years and never saw an attractive Indian woman, when young some look OK, not for me.

Anyway, I got turned off big time when I saw a woman having a #2, squatting in the street.
