April 9, 20224 yr Well as I always do I just filed for an extension on taxact.com. But there was something weird in the introduction this time. The general deadline is April 18. The automatic expat deadline is June 15 The if you file an extension deadline is October 17 All above normal but there was a mention that if you file an extension and you're abroad the deadline is actually AUGUST 15?!? That doesn't make any sense. Why isn't it in October as usual?
April 9, 20224 yr I can't find anything on the IRS website mentioning an August 15th deadline. The deadlines this year are April 18th, June 15th for expats and October 15th when filing form 4868. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/us-citizens-and-resident-aliens-abroad

It was bizarre. I think it was probably just a weird mistake by taxact but they're a big company so that's surprising. So I think I have an extension until October but no thanks to taxact I'm not entirely sure.
