Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has reminded all concerned, especially those in the tourism sector, not to lower their guard against COVID-19 while expressing satisfaction with the recovering tourism sector.

Over 273,000 people entered Thailand in March, up from 203,970 arrivals in the previous month. Of these, 152,954 foreign tourists visited Thailand in February, up from 133,903 in January, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

I think Thailand is well over due to a new leader, those old generals just won't cut it any longer to a country that is trying to rebuild it's life, economy and image and to wisely mange life and commerce with any pandemics other than to utter the usual and worn out slogans...

They, TAT are expecting 8 million this year, and I agree with you less than 3 million.  Happiness is Prayut being removed from power by the people soon.

Why does he say this? He opens the doors on Covid than he tells everyone to run and hide.

covid covid covid covid .......................................... emergency budgets emergency budgets emergency budgets emergency budgets .......................... billions of baht billions of baht billions of baht billions of baht - what is not to like in a country were fiscal accountability is zero and leaders exempted themselves from declaring wealth gained while in office

no wonder they want to keep it going as long as possible

But the generals want Thailand to stay as it was back in the days.

Keep the peasants downtrodden.

Make the rich more rich.

Syphon off billions in backhanders and blame everyone and everything else when it goes wrong.

Any progressive leader wanting to move Thailand forward will just be removed and replaced by another military uprising.

Better the Devil you know than don't know

Seems to be popular with ordinarily Thai people especially outside   Bangkok

Well he has to pretend to be happy as he knows he cannot drop covid restrictions

Not because of Covid mind you but because of upcoming elections

If he drops restrictions/Thai pass etc then gatherings must be allowed & there are thousands of protesters just waiting to gather

on the streets

So, we can expect right after they steal another election all freedoms/things will resume very quickly as they will once again

want to bury their snouts in the public baht trough & they know without the tourist without the Thai business prospering there is much less tax income/baht to suck up. So again right after election full steam ahead

I am going outside in a minute for a cup of coffee and I will remind myself to guard against covid should I forget.

Right you are, hence the time has come for a new, more modern thinking person who will envision what Thailand should be and not play it 'too safe'...

Who Prayut?  Oh I see your post was sarcasm, nice one, almost fell for it...

Of course he is happy but what about the tourist industry are they happy?

Doesn't take much to please this guy.  If I recall, he was happy with how things were going with pollution, traffic safety, corruption, education, the economy, covid. . .   Well, you name it, he's happy with his efforts.

Congrats on a new high in the self appreciation index

TIT after all so he is happy drinking lao kao

What these "generals" have done in 8 years will take 50+ years to recover from.

There are too many at the trough waiting to replace them.

Aim higher, Kid.

Just remind me what is 70% of nowt. Man’s an uneducated imbecile

my thoughts exactly. he is setting the stage to blame the covid surge on tourists again, never mind that it's already here, there and everywhere!
