The spokesman for the Thai Ministry of Defence, General Kongcheep Tantravanich, has dismissed as fake news a report that one of the three Thai nationals arrested in New York, on charges of arms and narcotics trafficking, is the son of the president of the Privy Council, General Surayud Chulanont.

He said that one of the Thai suspects has been identified by New York police as Suksan Jullanan, who also claimed to be a Thai army general, while General Surayud’s son’s name is Sant Chulanont.

He said that the people who disseminated the fake news, due to the close similarity of the two names, intended to link the arms and trafficking gang with General Surayud’s son, to tarnish the reputation of General Surayud.

Fake news. First sign of denial. Might be true, might not but time will tell. Doubt it will ever be made public in Thailand if it is true though.

But it would, in the US though

A quick , or deeper search shows no sign it is true.

Although I am not a US citizen, I do believe  it would already be out.

Remember what happened to the Dominique Strauss-Kahn in New York in May 2011 albeit the guy one one of the most powerful man in the world as head of the International Monetary Funds (IMF) and considered to be a leading candidate in the  2012 French presidential election....

I am wondering every time how policemen and army are so rich....They can't earn that much money as a salary so probably other things must be done too... But it is always denied so..... we should believe that

The army is already tarnished, that horse bolted when they took power through a coup, as usual.

Similarity of their names?......in the same way as Smith and Wilson are similar?

Jullanan and Chulanont seem like plausible transliterations for the same thai surname?

I've seen Surayud's children (three?) listed with various different first names.

These people change their names frequently....

"Spokesman for the Thai Ministry of Defense"

aka PM Prayut, former Army General and 2014 coup leader and Supervisor of RTP

Why not a simple "no comment" and let the police investigate?

??????????

It was not revealed until many years later that the ex agricultural minister had a name change after he was released from an Australian prison for drug related matters .  But that was ok .. it happened outside of Thailand...

I read about these arrests last week and noticed no Thai coverage - until now. Perhaps the confusion could be cleared up if the REAL son stages a press conference - in Thailand.

Hahahaha....don't you dare tarnish our reputation says General Squeaky Clean

Diplomatic passport/s? Multiple identities? False passports?
