Accusations of sexual harassment and assault made against a rising star in the coalition Democrats have shocked not only the party’s supporters but Thai society in general.

 

Prinn Panitchpakdi on Thursday (April 14) quit his post as Democrat deputy leader along with other party positions, including campaign chief for the May 22 Bangkok governor and city council elections.

 

His resignation came just two days after an 18-year-old woman filed a police complaint accusing him of groping and kissing her at a Sukhumvit restaurant against her will. After reports of the allegation became public, more women emerged to file complaints against the politician.

 

Serious accusation

 

Among his accusers is Hathairat “Anna” Vidhyaphum, who married property scion Tanat Thanakitamnuay in January. She said that Prinn sexually assaulted her in March 2021 at an apartment in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit area.

Amazing how many challengers to the government get put to bed...

If true on the other hand then he should be arrested and put to trial. 

Another plonker taking advantage of his power, must happen all over Thailand

Thailand is probably the one place where sexual assault is completely unnecessary. You can get a tug on just about any street corner. If the accusations against this guy are true then it was just about power over others…pretty much the last guy you want running things as he already felt he could get away with it due to his position.

I don't think it's shocked anyone...

just solidified what really goes on.

Like many folks in power they truly believe because of who they are and the lesser standing of others believes them they can do what they want.  Stories like this are all to common and just not here in Thailand.....

By pure coincidence, a similar named character appeared at Blackfriars court in London in 2003 on two counts of rape. Must be a common name in London I guess.

If true then he has earned his place in this government.  They have convicted drug dealers as ministers already,  a PM in which position at the time who oversaw the killing of an innocent nurse in 2010  so why not a rapist ? seems he has all the qualities that the elite and others whom support this current government look up too as symbols of "Thainess".

I doubt that this is a career over event for him. Thais are forgiving so very soon he will be back on road!

Fortunately for him he committed the alleged offences in London against his "own kind" and then unsurprisingly his "own kind" dropped the charges.  It was certainly speculated about at the time as to how or why those charges were dropped by those Thai ladies.

The old smear campaign could be at work if that don't work a touch of terrorism will do the trick ????

Get rid of the anti establishment supporters.... If we can't win votes we get rid of them by accusations, land scams, and more...

From what I've read, he paid them off. 

"A Thai woman whom Prinn allegedly sexually assaulted in the United Kingdom also said she would reopen the case after a well-connected woman had threatened her into dropping the charge in 2002."

Yet, anything/anyone that is traditionally associated with the establishment system isn't truly challenging, is it? 

How easy it is for too many to be manipulated as to what is real opposition and what isn't.
