How Can I Stop Dogs Biting My Mutt?

I have a lovely Ma Thai. She is spayed. Couple of years old.

But when I take her for Walkies. She often gets attacked for some reason?

I got bitten the other day by a nasty pooch who was biting her leg.

Some people say throw water over them. But I don't want to carry a heavy bottle around all the time. I hit them both with a stick but they just got angrier....

Any ideas Peeps?

I've got something that works incredible. It's a special dog pepper spray (longer spray stream) I stocked up on overseas and brought in my luggage. I used to tape it to my handlebars on long bicycle rides - over a few years was attacked and used it, stops them in their tracks. Not sure where you can get this in Thailand, though I know opposite Klong Tom market there is a "mercenary" soi that sells all sorts of pepper spray, mace, etc..

Before I get flamed, I am a dog owner and dog lover, and I only use this in self defense when absolutely necessary. The effects are temporary and no permanent damage is done to the animal.

I think it just takes time for the dogs to get used to you, I have a couple of set routes for "walkies" in the village which we stick to. I carry a heavy walking stick and the dogs know all about it. They might growl from a distance but we're only attacked now if we stray off "our" turf or the idiot neighbor lets his German shepherds out.

Actually if the Thais see their dogs bothering us now they'll come and chase them away.

Don't forget to take poochy somewhere like THIS occasionally.

I also am a dog owner and dog lover and agree with Chinthee that Pepper Spray (capsicum spray) is the best way to go. It has no long term effects so is very humane but will stop a dog immediately in his tracks if used properly. Do not confuse this spray with Mace because Mace is not effective on dogs. The Pepper Spray marketed as a self defense spray against people is basically the same as that marketed as a dog spray so either one will work fine. I have seen it for sale in both Pattaya and Bangkok. My wife carries a cannister in her purse at all times for protection ( However it is considered a hazardous substance so never attempt to take it on an airplane) . She bought a cannister in Bangkok at MBK last week and I think she paid around 450 Baht for it.

I gave my Basset Hound a "body guard" to protect him from the evil soi dogs >>> he got a 50 kg Rottweiler that follows him whereever he goes , no more Soi dogs in my soi now

Thanks - they are my babies! As for looking very "dogo".... you must know your dogs cause they are Dogo Argentinos. Most people have never even heard of the breed, let alone recognize one if they saw a picture
