Getting various bits of advice on this.

Need to drive from Phuket to Tioman next year and are being told by some in the office that you cannot drive a Thai plated car into Malaysia and by others that you can but the windows are not allowed to be tinted........

Has anyone actually driven into malaysia on Thai plates? Any problems?

Thanks

However if you actually want to be helpful you could perhaps point me in the direction of the thread that recently discuss' this issue as I couldn't find one when i used the search facility

we need to take nearly 100 kilos of baggage to tioman, the plane has an allowance of 10 kilos each, so 80 odd kilos at 330 Baht per kilo - plus the excess charge from Phuket to KL

So either shelve the idea for the trip or consider driving there.........

you can drive thai cars into Malaysia...you simply need to get the insurance, translate your licence plate to english one (contact the motor vehicle department....the place where you go to get your driving licence....they will then issue some sticker with english number for your thai licence plate). get the insurance at the border town......or perhaps somewhere in HatYai (sorry dont have enough specifics).......

in terms of tinted window....yes they will ask for un-tinted....or the other way to do it is if your car is already with tinted glass, then roll down the window....(keeping it rolled down BEFORE you get to the check point...and also long after)....and this includes not only at the border...but also throughout all checkpoints that you will come across while in Malaysia....

roads are very good...so you shouldnt have any trouble :o have a safe trip :D

checked the ferry's already. no problem with them its the driving to Mersing that I was worried about. Once at mersing can load all the gear onto the ferry and leave the car at the docks till we get back.

Guys,

I am a Malaysian, working in Thailand over 2 years. I plan to drive my Thai registered car to Malaysia next week. However, i have yet to finish the car loan. Another 2 more years to finish. The Blue Registration Log Book is kept by the finance now.

I have two questions for you guys:

Q1. Can i still drive the car to Malaysia without the Blue Log Book? However, i do have the original Hire Purchase agreement issued by the Finance and also a photocopy of my car log book. Besides Passport, English plate number sticker and also insurance, what else do i need it?

Q2. How long does the Malaysia customs allow me to drive the Thai registered car in Malaysia (maximum duration)? How much would that be then?

Pls advise.

Cheers!

Rgds,

Derek :o
