A Brazilian couple has been arrested at Samui International Airport after authorities discovered nearly 7 kilograms of cocaine concealed in their luggage. The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of over 20 million baht.

The suspects, identified as Mr. Diego Dos Santos Silva 35 and Ms. Fernanda Grebriel Lorenço De Andre 25, were apprehended by a joint task force comprising Customs officers, Bo Phut Police, immigration officials from Surat Thani (Samui) and airport security personnel. Officers found 6.63 kilograms of cocaine hidden among clothing and personal items in their suitcase.

The pair have been charged with importing a Category 2 narcotic (cocaine) and were taken to Bo Phut Police Station for further legal proceedings.

During initial questioning, the couple stated it was their first time in Thailand. They had flown from Brazil, transited in Qatar and arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport around 09:00 before continuing on to Samui, landing at 10:30 the same day.

They claimed they had been offered a free holiday to Koh Samui, including flights, accommodation, food and excursions, by a fellow Brazilian man, in exchange for bringing a suitcase into Thailand. According to the suspects, they were told someone would collect the bag upon their arrival, and they would receive 35,000 Brazilian reais (approximately 200,000 baht) as payment.

Authorities noted that the suspects were uncooperative during questioning and struggled to communicate in English. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to identify other members of the drug trafficking network and bring them to justice.

"What? You have drug-sniffing dogs at the airport? Wow! I didn't know there were such dogs."

On the bright side, you will not have to buy food for the next (20) years. You'll save a lot of money!

Life time jail !

The young lady looks like she's contemplating the next multiple years of no freedom.

So they made it into BKK airport and decided 1 more risky flight rather than a taxi and boat.... how dumb are these people

How did they get it on all the flights to the point they only got caught at samui.

Plus seems odd they were busted in samui as they don't scan luggage when it has just come off the plane as far as I'm aware ,  it's usually on the carousel by the time you get there a few hundred metres from the plane 🤔

Very odd; once you're in the nation, why would you risk boarding one more flight? It's beyond me. Sounds like a tip-off; perhaps someone was in Samui and got caught, then sold them out for a lighter sentence?

Their bags were probably in transit

How many times have you (and you, and also you over there) been checked by customs when arriving in Thailand? Very, very seldom. Those big catches usually happen when someone gives customs some kind of hint - for whatever reason.

PS: didn't know that transit through Suvarnabhumi to Samui with entering Thailand there was possible...

easily 20 years of BKK Hilton

yeah that's probably true, the Qatar part surprises me though, why do they always go through zero tolerance places on the connecting flights, just go to Europe at least if you get caught you get a nice prison
