Thai Rath reported that they were contacted by complainants that krathom tea was being sold openly on the Asia Highway (Route 41) before the road reaches Lang Suan in Chumphon.

 

Many people had set up stalls advertising "Krathom Tea For Sale" as well as the leaves of the plant.

 

Thai Rath said that they believed that processing the leaves for sale as tea was illegal.

The plant was recently removed form the narcotics list, notes ASEAN NOW.

 

On the highway traders sell the tea for between 50 and 150 baht and even have fizzy and sweet concentrated versions of the drug.

One woman trader said that she saw other people selling it so why not. The pandemic had been bad for her so she needed income. 

 

While the rest of the traders were united in stating that it's a herbal drink and the police told them it was fine to sell it.

It's a grey area.

My daughter grows kratom on their farm, they sell the bundled leaves to a company in Hat Yai. They have considered extracting the juice and shipping the concentrate, but people have been arrested for selling the concentrate, so they stick to the leaves only. At least growing it is legal now!

Just eat the leaves.   They aren't that bitter, and if you eat them with some mango slices,  you can eat them just fine .   Have good energy and be healthy.

 

Here in Narathiwat everyone and their granny sells krathom from pick-up trucks on the main roads.

I've never seen a police car anywhere close.

I see it for sale in my area.  I tried about half a glass of it.  Just a little bitter not that bad.  I did not feel anything from drinking it though.

Haha, just what Thai drivers need at hand on the big roads.

What's it meant to do? I had opium once In laos from a Dr O, i felt nothing whilst others were rolling round the floor

well clearly people want to drink it as a tea or the vendors wouldn't be going to all the trouble of brewing it, now would they?
