Major tourism markets in Asia Pacific, including Thailand, are getting back on track as international visitors start to plan their trips again, according to data from Bookaway Group, a ground transportation aggregator.

Thailand announced the lifting of restrictions on international visitors from its key source markets in October.

Bookaway Group noted a triple-digit (up 500 per cent) month-on-month increase in the volume of tickets sold by operators in Thailand between October and December, including domestic travellers.

However, the global emergence of the Omicron variant saw ticket sales drop by 20 per cent between December and January before climbing again, by single digits, in February.

Thailand follows, the other countries will reap the rewards due to less restrictions.

  • Popular Post

Others lead the tourism rebirth like Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines  while Thailand pushes folks away with tiresome regulations and registration requirements.  The OP is far off base.

Fanciful click-bait methinks.

October, isn't that like half a year away?

I believe this "advertisement" refers to October - December last year?  Somewhat confusing.

If you want off base, look in the mirror.

Those planning to travel to Vietnam should be aware of the latest restrictions currently in place:

  • Ho Chi Minh City’s health department has stated that people arriving at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International terminal will no longer need to prove their COVID-19 status from May 2. The decision was made as passengers are required to present a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding, therefore the requirement to check once arriving in Ho Chi Minh City was not needed and will help ease congestion. Authorities also plan to scrap health declarations for domestic travel soon.
  • Vietnam’s Ministry of Health on March 15 released COVID-19 entry procedures for foreign arrivals as per Official Letter No 1265/BYT-DP. As per the Document, foreign arrivals are required to:
    • Take a COVID-19 negative test using the RT-PCR method 72 hours before entering Vietnam OR a rapid Antigen test (no self-test) 24 hours before entering Vietnam. This does not apply to children under 2 years of age;
    • Make a health declaration (screenshot at end of article) before entry and download the PC-COVID app; and
    • In case a COVID-19 test is not taken prior to departure, a test will be taken within 24 hours after arriving in Vietnam. If negative, travelers can travel anywhere within Vietnam; no quarantine required.
  • Tourists entering Vietnam should also have medical or travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment with a minimum liability of US$10,000.

''Thailand leads Asia tourism reopening'' Leally. Bet the General won't ban this as Fake News though.

Totally fake news. Thailand leads in the regulation category, only. Massive cowardice and confusion, up until recently has caused the industry great harm. Scrap the pass system and maybe they will see 5 million tourists a year within 5 years. Maybe. It will never be like before. And that will be good for some, and hard on others.

Thai's don't / can't lead,  they follow

Not really.

I have booked our return tickets for October and yes it is 5 months away, but hey, when you have kids and school holidays, you got to take advantage of the break periods and book way ahead, besides got a great special with Thai Airways, lets hope they are still in business by then.....lol.

Yes indeed, as here in Cambodia (29/04/2022):-

"The number of international tourists has seen a sharp increase by 125 percent to 159,546 in the first three months of this year, a positive sign for the tourism sector recovery since Cambodia announced to fully reopen the country............"

Maybe October 2023?

As of tomorrow, May 1, Malaysia will abolish its "Malaysia Pass" completely, i.e. no pre-registration and approval is required for any visitors to the country.

So... how exactly is Thailand "leading", since its own "Thailand Pass" is still in place?

Written by Cambodian tourism authority ????

As of May 1st there are no longer any tests required for fully vaxed and recently announced you DO NOT need to be vaccinated if you supply a negative test before departure to Thailand

They harp on about how clear they were to never be colonised but can't feed themselves without the foreign dollar.

Meanwhile, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia are all up and running nicely.

Well done Thailand

How do you measure a 125% increase of nearly nothing? Same applies to Thailand, when they are bragging about the increase in tourism, from last year. How is that significant?

Which might be code for not knowing what they are talking about - all too common among the fuzzy stories/articles that are too casually promoted [and bought into] here.

Totally misleading. That platform sells tickets for ground transportation, not flight tickets. -

Is there international train and bus travel to Thailand again? If not, it can only be about domestic travel, so it has (almost) nothing to do with international arrivals and Thailand's 'reopening'.
