Police are hunting for a local official who has allegedly embezzled over 31 million baht from the account of the municipal office of Buntharik sub-district in in Thailand’s north-eastern province of Ubon Ratchathani.

The 36-year-old finance official, who worked at the office, has not reported to work since June 10th and told his relatives that he was going to visit friends in another province.

The municipal mayor told Buntharik district police that he was not familiar with the online financial transaction system and assigned the missing official to handle online financial transactions, including cash transfers, and had given him the password.

seems he got caught - one of many that don't

maybe the mayor can give us all his own financial status and and its source - that would be a very interesting read lol

If only he had been at the top of the food chain things might have been a lot different as most know !

Will be interesting to see if the effort put into finding, catching and prosecuting this guy is equal to the efforts for doing the same to nailing a certain politician who recently 'borrowed' 150 rai of national park land!

Well, I vote the mayor becomes responsible for the debt and sells his house rather than use more public money !

To ensure that the municipality can continue to meet its financial obligations, the mayor says he has sought permission from the provincial governor to draw on a reserve fund.

I assume that the governor will give the "financial transaction challenged" mayor the password for the reserve fund...

So for their gross incompetence they want more money to cover the losses, in a normal country they would all be sacked and made to pay it back.

Amazing Thailand.

Those who are reckless and negligent are just as equally culpable if their actions facilitate the crime.

Two people would just split it 50/50... ????

Pull my left leg and it will ring "jingle bells"; the mayor "not familiar" and handing over passwords and the works? It's New Year in summer - it seems ????

He was certainly keeping a close eye on the finances,  he was making sure every transfer was the correct amount and that the transfer went through successfully.   :cheesy:

He might be shacked up with the red bull guy,if that's the case he will never be caught lol

British GP next week, expect he will be there, again.
