Residents of 15 provinces warned of flash floods

BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department Wednesday issued a warning for residents of 15 provinces to brace themselves for heavy rains and possible flash floods.

The department said the heavy downpours could happen Wednesday and Thursday because of the influence of a low pressure ridge in the South China Sea and the southwest monsoon wind over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.

The 15 provinces are Mae Hong Son, Tak, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Ratchaburi, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaew, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang Nga and Phuket.

Meteorological Dept. warns of heavy rain nationwide

The Meteorological Department has reported today (Jun 20) that an active low pressure cell in the lower South China Sea and a rather intense southwest monsoon upper the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand cause abundant rain with gust across the country.

In addition, isolated heavy to very heavy rain will take place in Mae Hong Son, Tak, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Ratchaburi, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang Nga and Phuket provinces. People in the areas should beware of flooding conditions in the next couple of days while wind-wave in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea is intensifying. All ships need to take more cautions, and small boats in the Andaman Sea should keep ashore during this period.

Bangkok metropolis and vicinity will likely see widespread thundershowers with isolated heavy rain and gust. The minimum temperature will be 27 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature will be 35 degrees Celsius. The speed of southwesterly winds will be around 15 to 35 kilometers per hour.

When is BKK's new super sewer, anti-flood project supposed to be completed? When I first arrived, I was confused by the 18" high curbs - and now I realize the curbs are that high because the storm sewers don't work.

A little below Thailand we have had two days of heavy rain.

No floods.

No water shortages.

I wonder why????

We've just had two days of intense rain down here (Phuket)

Is this more to come or did it come early and now over.
